NOURISH: Turmeric

benefits of turmeric

What is it? Turmeric is a beautiful yellow spice (that will stain anything it touches) and has been around in many kitchens for a long time. It grows wild in the forests of South and Southeast Asia. Turmeric has a more popular cousin named ginger but both of them have equally incredible anti-inflammatory health benefits.

Consider reaching for a sprinkle of turmeric when...

...when you "just can't" anymore. Turmeric is mood-balancing. Turmeric contains something called curcumin which in a number of studies has shown to directly fight depression.

...when you have an open wound. Dancers, do you hear me? Turmeric can speed up the wound healing process. We said it.

...when everything hurts. It helps with aches and pains because it's naturally a potent anti-inflammatory spice.

...when you have a really long day at the studio. We all know #hangry is never a good place to be. Turmeric aids in balancing your blood sugar.

How can I use it?
Here are some ideas:
- over cooked vegetables
- over scrambled or easy over eggs
- add it to boiling water for pasta, rice or soup
- add it to fresh juice
